On September 16 in Ho Chi Minh City, the National Innovation Center under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, and Arizona State University, organized a specialized workforce development program focused on semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging. The program aims to equip Vietnam with the necessary skills and capabilities to more deeply integrate into the global semiconductor industry.

At the human resource development event in the field of semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging—jointly organized by the National Innovation Center (NIC), the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, and Arizona State University in Ho Chi Minh City on September 16, 2024—Mr. Nguyễn Quang Thanh, Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Da Nang, attended and delivered a keynote speech.

In his speech, Mr. Nguyễn Quang Thanh emphasized Da Nang City’s strong efforts in developing the semiconductor and artificial intelligence industries—key sectors in the city’s economic and technological development strategy. He shared that, according to Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW of the Politburo, Da Nang has identified semiconductors and artificial intelligence as breakthrough sectors that play a crucial role in driving fast and sustainable development.

He also outlined the city’s concrete plans for training and developing a high-quality workforce for the semiconductor industry, aiming to train at least 5,000 engineers by 2030 — including 2,000 design engineers and 3,000 engineers and technicians in the fields of assembly, testing, and packaging. Da Nang has been working closely with numerous international partners, including Synopsys and Arizona State University, to develop internationally standardized training programs that ensure the supply of skilled talent aligned with the needs of leading global semiconductor companies.

In particular, Mr. Thanh emphasized Da Nang’s strong commitment to developing high-tech infrastructure, including the expansion of the High-Tech Park and Software Park No. 2, to meet the needs of both domestic and international investors. The city not only focuses on human resources development but also ensures technical infrastructure — from laboratories to high-performance computing centers — to support research and development activities.
