On November 7 and 8, in Hanoi, the National Innovation Center (NIC) in collaboration with the Global Semiconductor Alliance (SEMI) will host the Vietnam Semiconductor Industry Exhibition 2024 – SemiExpo Vietnam 2024, with the theme “Elevating Vietnam in the Global Semiconductor Supply Chain.”

Speaking at the forum “Developing Design, Packaging, and Testing of Semiconductors in Southeast Asia” on the morning of November 8, Vice Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh emphasized that the city is focusing on developing high technology, especially after Vietnam and the United States upgraded their comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2023.

Since October 2023, Da Nang has intensified activities to attract investment and train human resources in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) sectors. The city has organized international conferences and workshops, and has engaged with corporations such as Synopsys, Nvidia, Marvell, Intel, and Qualcomm to expand cooperation. Currently, Da Nang has around 10 semiconductor design companies with 600 engineers, accounting for nearly 10% of the country’s semiconductor workforce.

By 2030, Da Nang aims to train 5,000 engineers in the semiconductor field, including 2,000 design engineers and 3,000 packaging and testing engineers and technicians. The city is implementing three groups of solutions:

1. Policy Development: Da Nang is establishing political and legal frameworks to create investment attraction policies and incentives for development cooperation in the semiconductor and artificial intelligence sectors, following Resolution 136/2024/QH15.
2. Infrastructure Development: Investment in information technology parks and software parks, with the Da Nang Software Park No. 2 expected to be operational by the end of 2024, providing over 90,000 m² of floor space for 6,000 personnel.
3. Training Cooperation: Collaborating with businesses in training, developing human resources, and attracting experts in the fields of semiconductors, AI, and technology. Currently, the city has 37 educational institutions related to information technology and semiconductors, with approximately 5,700 students enrolled.

These steps aim to establish Da Nang as a center for semiconductors and AI in Vietnam, attract international investment, and develop a high-quality workforce.
