Semiconductor Companies Ramp Up Hiring in Da Nang: A Golden Opportunity for Students and Young Engineers

Vietnam’s semiconductor industry is entering a period of rapid growth, and Da Nang is emerging as one of the most promising destinations thanks to favorable policies on workforce development, infrastructure support, and corporate income tax incentives. As of 2023, Da Nang is home to around 600 active IC design engineers—part of Vietnam’s total of 5,600. Projections indicate that by 2030, the city will require between 2,000 and 2,600 engineers in this field, representing a 3- to 4-fold increase. With an average annual growth rate of 10–15% and the presence of leading design companies such as Synopsys, Marvell, Uniquify, FPT Semiconductor, and Viettel Hi-Tech, Da Nang is steadily positioning itself as a key IC design hub in Central Vietnam.

Despite these developments, a 2023 survey by the Ministry of Planning and Investment shows that only 27–29% of Vietnamese university students are enrolled in STEM majors, and just 1.5% are in natural sciences and mathematics—only one-third the rate of developed countries. This highlights an urgent need to strengthen the local talent pipeline for the semiconductor industry. Notably, data from the Vietnam Semiconductor Community reveals that entry-level chip design engineers in Vietnam earn an average post-tax salary of nearly VND 220 million (~USD 8,600) per year, with the potential to exceed VND 1 billion (~USD 39,000) annually after 15–20 years of experience.

To meet this growing demand, a wave of domestic and international technology companies are launching internship and recruitment initiatives in Da Nang. Multinational corporation Quest Global has officially opened applications for its “The Next In-turn 2025” internship program, running in both Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. The 4-week intensive training targets students with academic backgrounds in IC design, electrical/electronic engineering, telecommunications, or computer science. Interns will gain hands-on experience in three core technical domains: Physical Design, Design-for-Test (DFT), and Synthesis. Applications close on July 22, interviews will take place between July 23 and August 6, with final results announced mid-August and onboarding scheduled for early September.
